LinkedIn is the Number One Social Marketing Network

We will start by discovering why LinkedIn is the number one marketing tool hands down, ever. Suppose you will attend an important meeting and you want to know a little bit about the attendees. They may be a potential employer, maybe a customer, entrepreneur or potential investor. You can Google them to learn more about them, and LinkedIn will most likely appear in the top search.

How many of you Google people? How many of you Google yourself to see how you’re ranking? If you’re not doing it, you better start to see what comes up. Most likely than not, somebody is going to Google you and you need to know what they can see when they Google you.

I’ve been doing online marketing for the longest time. I worked in the software industry early on in my career and I purchased my domain name, jorgeolson.com, many years back. There are not a lot of Jorge Olsons in the world, so that was an advantage! Thanks to all the marketing articles, link backs, videos, and books I have written, a quick search will bring a million results for my name. LinkedIn is still number one and my own website is still ranked number two behind LinkedIn.

I can’t even rank higher than LinkedIn under my own name. With this knowledge, your LinkedIn profile should be pimped, super charged, accurate, up to date and relevant. It should be pimped because others will judge you, not on what you say in your website, but on what LinkedIn says about you.

“LinkedIn is no longer an online resume. It’s your digital reputation.”

LinkedIn is the greatest professional networking and career development platform that now adays allows individuals to post their CVs and employers to find them. This is massively powerful for you not to have a pimped out LinkedIn profile. And it’s not just for employment opportunities. Businesspeople are using LinkedIn to grow their customer base, promote new products, find investment opportunities, find investors, create partnerships and joint ventures, do business internationally, promote non-profits, invite people to events. I could go on and on. The opportunities are endless in LinkedIn!

What about LinkedIn for business? I wrote my first book about fifteen years ago, Build Your Beverage Empire. The keyword beverage development has made me over a million dollars since I’ve spent so much money on SEO for beverage development. Who do you think ranks higher? My websites. I have twenty websites on the beverage industry alone. I created a company on LinkedIn for every single keyword. I forgot about it and didn’t post anything for months. That keyword is still higher on Google for my LinkedIn company than from all of the twenty company websites I own. So now I don’t spend any money on SEO. I just let LinkedIn do its magic.

I like to write. It’s my favorite thing to do in my spare time. Even when I travel, I sneak in a few hundred words. My latest book is Lessons from My Guardian Angel. It’s not a business book, instead it’s a collection of short stories. I have it now in hardcover. So, I write a lot. I write every day, ten to twenty thousand words per day is my goal. I’ve been a software Executive, I’ve been an entrepreneur, a marketing coach. I own many different companies. In the past I have worked GKC, Mexico, spreading the marketing word in other countries. I also manage a fund. I mentor beverage executives and always have other interesting projects in the pipeline.

I keep very busy. You might ask me what are the other reasons why I should use LinkedIn. Is it really good for my business? I need more reasons. Well, how about lead transparency? How about knowing exactly who your leads are before you call them or send them an email? You can go in and see who they are, their telephone number, current projects, current needs, hobbies, past employments, name of colleagues or boss. Now, if you don’t have them already, you can go look for them and see exactly who they are. They don’t have to give you permission to see who they are. And then you can just call them. If their cell phone number is not listed on their profile, guess what? There’s a company button. Click the button. Call the company and ask for that person. It’s that easy these days.

Use Karma when you use LinkedIn

If you want to attach yourself to somebody you respect, somebody in your industry, someone you want to do business with, use Karma by endorsing them and commenting on their wall. Comment on their posts, react to their articles, so every time others see their profile they are going to see you as well. You will be forever attached, no matter what he writes, there will be a click from you. Karma, baby. Use Karma in a positive and unselfish way.

“I believe in karma. I believe if you put out positive vibes to the world, you’re going to get them back eventually.”

Karma also works for recommendations. When you give a recommendation, they should be long recommendations, at least 150 words. This is a great guide. Whenever somebody visits your target profile, they will see a long recommendation from you. And that does two things: Number one, they will love it. And maybe you’ll get one back. And number two, because it is a long recommendation, you will get a lot of real estate in their profile.

Leads with cash

You will get leads that have money, big money, big money to spend. How do we know? Research. There are five million investors right now on LinkedIn and they make buying decisions. By the way, I said five million. They make buying decisions, business investment decisions on the LinkedIn platform. They ask questions about that investment and purchasing decision.

They can use topic specific places, they can use the other social media engines, they can use Facebook and Google, but everything else besides LinkedIn together is 29% versus 73% for LinkedIn.

People with money, research and resources that already know where to go for advertising, go to LinkedIn for advertising. So, they advertise our products and services to high-net-worth individuals, people with cash, they go to LinkedIn because they already know where it’s at. If we look at percentages for personal use and business use, we have Facebook, where you find a lot of baby pictures connected with friends and family. But making decisions on how they spend their money, people go to LinkedIn. When talking about business topics that are of influence, people go to LinkedIn. When you’re looking for investment opportunities, you turn to LinkedIn.

Whether you are a new entrepreneur or a top executive, your LinkedIn profile is where people get the first impression of you, your brand, or your company. The profile is the starting point to grow your business. It is where people can see everything about you and your business. Use this “hack” to increase your number of followers, your networking channels, and to promote your business, and of course don’t forget about Karma.
